Trish Stone (she/her) is a new media artist, whose conceptual art projects deal with issues surrounding technology and identity. She was born to an Irish American family who left farming life in Iowa to engage in academic service in Pittsburgh, PA. Stone attended public schools and travelled to Austin to pursue a BFA at the University of Texas at Austin. Upon graduation she volunteered for the National Park Service, counting tortoises around Lake Mead. The desire to be of service led her to enter the Peace Corps and serve as a Rurual Community Development Volunteer in Benin, West Africa. In Za-Kopta, she worked with members of the community center to set up a soybean garden to supplement nutrition for women and children. Renewing her commitment to the arts, Stone entered graduate school at California College of the Arts and earned an MFA in 2003. Trish Stone currently teaches at University of California at San Deigo as a Lecturer for the Department of Visual Arts.

Trish Stone's artworks address themes of surveillance and intimacy. She created her project Network Error out of a need to respond to the 2016 presidential election, in particular due to the candidate's treatment of women.  For this project, Stone scanned her body and printed 3D miniature figurines of herself, using them to stage tiny protests against big banks, big oil, and big business. She displayed photographs of the protests, along with the figurines and interactive videogames at gallery@calit2 and   San Diego Art Institute.  A previous project, Things I Never Say, grew out of the shock of learning that San Diego's public beach spaces were surveilled with publicly accessible live cameras.  Trish Stone researched where the cameras were pointed and used them as a platform for performance, holding up signs to the cameras spelling out her innermost thoughts. She exhibited stills from the series at Lui Velasquez gallery in Tijuana, and the compiled videos in 2011 at Art Produce Gallery, along with a screening she curated along the theme of performance in public space.
